Cervical Cancer Awareness Month Commemoration

Regular screening is the best method of detecting cervical cancer as well as other common cancers early, when treatment can be effective.

Cervical cancer is one of the major public health challenges facing women in Zimbabwe today. It is now the leading cancer in the country. According to the Zimbabwe National Cancer Registry;

  • cervical cancer accounted for 15% of all cancer deaths in 2010
  • 32% of women diagnosed with cancer in 2010 had cervical cancer
  • Black women in Zimbabwe are at a greater risk of developing this disease
  • Cervical cancer can be prevented. It can also be cured if diagnosed and treated early.
